Dating from 1875, this charming stone-built village house is situated in a sleepy Mediterranean village, deep in the lower Fenouillèdes range of the eastern Pyrénées and facing the impressive Mont Canigou. Board floors, beamed ceilings and a wood-burning stove do much to retain the original character of this delightful property, recently renovated to provide comfortable and very appealing first and second floor accommodation (the ground floor is used solely for access). Running off the dining-area, a shady, wisteria-draped terrace enjoys extensive views over the surrounding landscape, while retaining a good degree of privacy from the nearest neighbour - the owners’ own home to the rear. At ground floor level a small, sunny garden, bordered with vines, is also available to guests. In the area: excellent walking from the doorstep; Cathar country with its many fortified castles and walled cities; the reputed vineyards of the Corbières; Catalonia and Spain within easy striking distance. In a nutshell, a comfortable retreat, with authentic village life on the doorstep, in a delightful yet little explored region of the eastern Pyrénées.

Accommodation: First floor: open-plan kitchen, living/dining room, terrace. Second floor: 1 double-bedded room, 1 twin-bedded room, bathroom with wc, cot.

Activities: Swimming pool (June-Oct) in Sournia (6km) and Prats-de-Sournia (10km). Tennis and horse riding in Sournia. Waymarked walking from the doorstep. River fishing in the area (permit needed). Sea at 75km.
