Located 35km from Aix-en-Provence, in the town of Saint Maximin and listed as a historical monument, Hôtel le Couvent Royal is set in a former Dominican monastery which is one of France’s finest examples of Gothic architecture.
ROOMS
The Hôtel le Couvent Royal de Saint Maximin has 67 rooms on two floors all with private bathrooms and satellite TV. All rooms have a view of either the cloisters or the town and each is equipped with hairdryer, mini-bar and internet access.
RESTAURANT
The "Les Chapître" restaurant is located in the former chapter house. The menu reflects the Provencal colours and flavours and makes use of local produce. In the summer guests can dine outside at tables set up in the cloisters.
IN THE AREA
Next door to the hotel is the Saint Maximin Basilica, and if you love wine and fragrances there are many opportunities in the region to satisfy your "nose", such as the Casino du Vin, an original and fun concept for tasting and discovering wine; a visit of wine-growing estates such as the Domaine de Triennes or the Domaine du Deffends; the Molinard perfume workshop in Grasse, where you can create your own perfume.
Possible visits include Abbaye du Thoronet, the Fréjus Cloister, the Château d’If and the Abbaye de la Celle.
In the heart of Provence you are not far from Aix-en-Provence, Marseille and its calanques, and the Gorges du Verdon.
Active leisure is well catered for with kayaking in the Gorges du Verdon, horse-riding and trekking in the Sainte Baume Massif, swimming and tennis in Barjols, and golf courses in Barbaroux and Nans le Pins (12km)
