La Bastide is a 1-bedroomed cottage, sleeping 2 (+ baby), on the outskirts of the village of Aubignan (Vaucluse), 21km E of Orange, 25km NE of Avignon (Michelin map: 527). VFB is delighted to have featured this property since 2003. Saturday arrival.
Attached to the owners’ house yet completely self-contained, this neat little property, set in a semi-rural location, has been newly converted to provide spacious accommodation for a couple. The high beamed ceiling, half-timbered wall and open fireplace, together with the odd farming implement, lend an appealingly rustic feel to the interior. Simply fitted and furnished (with a functional kitchen), the interior has been decorated in light colours with Provençal fabrics in places. A paved terrace, shaded by an olive tree, provides a peaceful spot for outdoor meals and guests also have the use of a large, well-kept lawned area and swimming pool (8m50 x 4m50, depth 1m60). Nearby, the pretty village of Beaumes-de-Venise, nestling at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, with flower-lined streets, fine old houses and ruins of a 12th-century feudal château, and wine cellars offering tastings of the famous Muscat wine; Vacqueyras which produces one of the three major vintages of Côtes du Rhône de Vaucluse; Vaison-la-Romaine and its haute ville with little shady squares, ancient doorways and narrow cobbled streets. A spacious, practical property for two in a tranquil setting amid beautiful countryside.

.
Activities: Private swimming-pool (available June - September) and bicycles on the spot. Tennis in Aubignan. Horse riding in Carpentras (6km). Golf (18 holes) in Morières (20km). Canoeing and kayaking at la Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (28km).

“Here for our 3rd visit, we’ve had a wonderful time again.” “Monsieur et Madame Grosson have been exceptionally kind and hospitable and are the major reason why this is such a good place to stay. One gets a strong feeling of welcome from the outset.” “This is a super gîte with splendid hosts. Jo and André exemplify the very best of VFB hospitality and efficiency.” “It is not often that a holiday home exceeds expectations but this one certainly did. I was quite taken with the picture on the VFB website but it does not do justice to this lovely gîte.” “Jo and André prepare the gîte with great care and we are so comfortable with all the equipment we need.” "Jo and André Grosson are exemplary hosts; the warmth of their welcome and generosity is outstanding .. always there when needed yet discreet. The accommodation is simple yet very comfortable with an excellent pool which was most welcome to cool off after a day out in the Provençal heat. The location of this gite is superb, enabling visits to a variety of interesting locations without having to travel long distances."
