La Bastide Neuve (IMB.84)

La Bastide Neuve is a 4-bedroomed farmhouse, sleeping 6, in a rural area, 5km from the village of Roussillon (Vaucluse), 10km NW of Apt and some 61km NNW of Aix-en-Provence (Michelin map: 528). VFB is delighted to have featured this property since 1997. Saturday arrival.

Here we have an 18th-century Provençal mas, or farmhouse, thoughtfully restored in 1993 to retain its regional atmosphere inside and out. This south-facing property with the owners’ home adjoining stands in a slightly elevated position with views to wooded hillsides beyond perimeter hedges in one of the most sought-after areas of Provence. The spacious interior is comfortable and inviting, tastefully furnished and fitted, well equipped, light and airy. It has an old stone fireplace in the elegant living / dining room and furniture includes one or two antique pieces. A French window opens out from here on to a sunny paved terrace providing a pleasant area for meals al fresco; the large private swimming-pool (10m x 5m, depth: 1m20 - 1m70) with paved surround and extensive grassy areas lie beyond, screened by conifers. Privacy and tranquillity are key notes here with open fields and vineyards all around. The friendly young owners will welcome their guests. They and their twin daughters live alongside but with their entrance and sitting-out areas at the rear (their two windows alongside IMB.84 are of unused rooms). Madame will provide traditional Provençal meals for guests on demand. A stylish, character property of high standard, a comfortable home from which to explore picturesque Roussillon famed for its ochre quarries, numerous `perched’ villages, notably Gordes, throughout the Lubéron hills and plateaux de Vaucluse. ·     Bathroom, en suite with bedroom 1, with short bath with shower attachment, wc. Beamed ceiling. Tiled floor.

First floor stairs (open on one side and with low headroom midway) to landing with doors to:
