La Passiflore is a 3-4 bedroomed villa, sleeping 5-6 (+ baby), on the outskirts of Meschers-sur-Gironde (Charente-Maritime), 11km S of Royan, 36km SW of Saintes (Michelin map: 521). VFB is delighted to have featured this property since 2003. Saturday arrival.

This is a spacious villa, set in a quiet residential area, less than ten minutes’ walk from a sandy beach. The interior is appealing, with a particularly attractive and well-furnished living/dining room with cool terracotta tiled floor. Rugs, pretty curtains, and carefully chosen traditional wooden items combine with a neat fitted kitchen and inviting bedrooms to provide a homely property of a very good standard. Several sets of french windows open on to a south-facing, shady terrace and well-maintained lawned garden surrounded by hedges and planted with oak trees – a very pleasant, peaceful spot for cooling off after a day at the beach. The owner, whose winter home this is, lives in an independent property to the rear during the rental period and will personally welcome all visitors to the property. A good quality, comfortable villa ideally suited for a beach holiday, with shops, restaurants and beaches all within a short walk. The popular town of Royan is close by, with its majestic seafront and port, from where one can take the ferry across the Gironde to the Pointe de Grave and visit the famous Médoc vineyards. Other visits may include the Forêt de la Coubre, north of Royan, for walking or mountain biking, or the old town of Saintes with its pretty stone houses and Roman amphitheatre.
