A breakage deposit of 100€ is payable upon arrival. This will be returned on the morning of departure (less charges for items not included in the price), provided there have been no breakages and the property is left in good order. The owners may, at their discretion, make a minimum deduction of 50€ from the deposit if the property is not left in good order.
Household linen is available and chargeable. One set costs 20€ for two people and 5€ for each additional person. One hand towel, one bath towel and one flannel per person, plus two tea towels and two kitchen towels per booking will be provided. Extra sets are not available.
Electricity (radiator in each room) is not included and must be paid for on departure.
La Rhetaise is a 3-bedroomed cottage, sleeping 6 (+ baby), in the village of La Noue, Ste-Marie-de-Ré (Charente-Maritime), on the Ile de Ré, 500m from the sea, 17km west of la Rochelle (Michelin map: 521). VFB is delighted to have featured this property since 2001. Saturday arrival.
An attractive 100-year-old semi-detached family house, refurbished to provide holiday accommodation on two floors; looking onto its own enclosed courtyard, the house is set on a village street close to the market and shops and only a few minutes' walk from the beaches and varied activities of this delightful island. Well placed for trouble-free holidays the house has retained some original features in the wooden kitchen cupboards and old staircase. Board floors and pine-panelled ceilings provide an attractive framework for the comfortably arranged traditional rustic furniture, and the house is well equipped for family holidays. It opens on to a small informal courtyard (approximately 6m x 6m50, trimmed with hollyhocks in typical Ile-de-Ré fashion) with built-in barbecue, providing seclusion from village life - and the daily summer market - beyond the boundary wall. The owner lives nearby (she raises oysters and her husband makes wine) and is very knowledgeable about the area; she and her daughter speak a little English and will welcome guests personally. A peaceful holiday island with a huge range of long sandy beaches, pretty villages and countryside just made for cycling. Accessible by toll bridge (17€ return in high season) is the superb harbour and old town of La Rochelle, delightful Marais-Poitevin with its labyrinth waterways, nature reserves south of La Rochelle and oyster beds of the Ile d'Oléron. A comfortable, well-equipped house with all holiday amenities at hand and the sea just down the road!
