Le Moulin is a 2-bedroomed cottage, sleeping 4 (+ baby), in a rural location, 2km from the village of Lablachère (Ardèche), 25km SW of Aubenas, 50km NNE of Alès (Michelin maps: 527 / 526). VFB is delighted to have featured this property since 1980. Saturday arrival.
This pretty little property is a conversion of a former olive mill (1759), a detached building of local stone, set in a clearing amongst woodlands, beside a little stream - you can see the trout from the kitchen window! The accommodation is spotless, simple, easy to run and lightly furnished with a mixture of rustic and more contemporary items. There are secluded, extensive grassy areas, on different levels all around the house with the shade of a lime tree, in a peaceful, completely unspoilt setting with no immediate neighbours, although the village with essential shops and services is only a couple of minutes away. The region itself is splendid; a sunny, Mediterranean land of steep hills and lovely old villages set among vineyards and orchards in wide valleys cut through by the river Ardèche which has also created the magnificent gorges nearby. Exceptional setting, really ideal for nature lovers. The stream usually has enough water for children to paddle, according to the season, but can become quite fast-flowing in times of heavy rain or dried out in July/August.
Accommodation: All on first floor: kitchen/living room, 1 twin and 1 double-bedded room, shower room, wc.
Activities: Tennis and swimming pool (June-Sept) at Planzolles (8km). Tennis at Lablachère. River for swimming and fishing (permit needed), bicycles for hire at Joyeuse (5km). Tennis and riding in St Genest (1km). Rock climbing at Casteljou (10km). Canoeing at Les Vans (13km).
Services: All essential shops and services at Lablachère. Bank at Joyeuse. Market on Wednesdays at Joyeuse, on Sundays at Lablachère, Saturdays in Les Vans and Rosières on Monday.
