Le Pont Génois is a 3-bedroomed former olive mill, sleeping 6 (+ baby), located 3km from the centre of the village of Lama, 13km from Ponte Leccia, 28km from l'Ile-Rousse. Michelin map 345. VFB is delighted to have featured this property since 2010. Sunday arrival.
Le Pont Génois, ‘the Genoese bridge’, is a former olive mill on the banks of a stream which has been converted into an impeccably-presented property with swimming pool, situated in a private location at the foot of a hill leading up to Lama, one of Corsica’s most photographed villages.
This welcoming property is found at the end of a short track from the main road linking Ponte Leccia and l’Ile-Rousse and one is immediately struck by the old Genoese bridge and the huge olive tree guarding the terrace, a glimpse of bygone times and your own special spot during your holiday. The property offers much appeal throughout, most notably thanks to the period detail present in the kitchen (the original millstone and olive press forms part of the kitchen table), as well as the exposed stonework, tiled floors (with underfloor cooling/heating) and quality furnishings. Outdoor living has been equally well conceived; an attractive swimming pool as well as a choice of terraces will ensure many enjoyable moments, while distant views across tree tops to the surrounding mountains provide a gorgeous backdrop.
Accommodation: Ground floor: open-plan kitchen/dining/living room, double bedroom, shower room, wc. First floor: king-size bedded room, twin bedroom, bathroom, wc.
Activities: Private swimming pool (with electric security cover) 9m50 x 5m00, available early May – late September. Please note the pool depth of 1m00 - 1m80. The nearest beaches are at Ostriconi (15km) and Lozari (20km), which has water sports organised in high season. Climbing and trekking in the Asco Valley.
Services: In the village of Lama there is a small shop with very limited supplies; there is also a farm shop selling local produce near the l'Alzelli restaurant. Larger supermarkets can be found in Ponte Leccia or in l'Ile-Rousse.
In the area: The Gorges de l’Asco are definitely worth a visit; the road which winds its way up to the Haut-Asco ski resort through wonderful scenery is only a ten-minute drive away. Alternatively, the nearest beach is only 15 minutes away from the villa; the natural bay at Ostriconi is a sight to behold where wild cows can often be seen sunbathing with tourists! Catch the famous Micheline train from nearby Ponte Leccia to Ajaccio and experience the island from an entirely different and stunningly-beautiful perspective.
