City Breaks

Whether your taste is for culture, food, shopping or a combination of the three, choose from our personal selection of breaks and enjoy a few days away in one of Italy's most enchanting cities. View City Breaks in Italy

Florence

The city was founded by Julius Caesar around 59BC, at the time a strategic garrison controlling the Via Flaminia which linked northern Italy and Gaul with Rome. The centuries which followed saw the city grow into an important centre for trade and, by mediaeval times, Florence was a leading player in European finance, banking and culture as well as the wool, silk and leather industries. Milan

Enjoy a stylish break in Milan, where centuries of art, awe-inspiring architecture and cosmopolitan culture provide an elegant backdrop to the passions of fashion, football and opera which take centre stage. View holidays in Milan

Rome

Rome is Italy's largest city and capital of both modern-day Italy and ancient Rome. Today, the historic centre contains impressive examples of architectural splendour from all eras of the city’s extensive history.

Venice

There can surely be no city more deserving of the title “la Serenissima” than Venice? Set against the backdrop of the glittering Adriatic Sea, this gem of a city sparkles with romance as you wander through charming campi or watch the gondoliers pass under the many bridges crisscrossing the maze of canals on which Venice is built.  View holidays in Venice

Verona

The city of Verona is a veritable treasure trove of historical, architectural and cultural delights and, justifiably, is one of northern Italy's most popular tourist destinations. View holidays in Verona

Renaissance Cities in Tuscany
Florence, unrivalled for its Renaissance art and sculpture, has many treasures to discover. Close to the piazza Della Signoria is the famous Uffizi gallery, which houses a prestigious collection of art bequeathed to the city by the Medici family, including works by the great Renaissance Masters such as Titian, Caravaggio and Da Vinci. Stroll through the old city streets, visit the Galleria dell’Accademia, home to Michelangelo’s David and marvel at the city’s majestic skyline, dominated by Giotto’s red-tiled Duomo.

Not to be missed is the lovely city of Siena, famous for its Palio horse race and festival that takes place twice each summer in the central plaza Il Campo. Here you can climb to the top of the civic palace for wonderful views, visit the museum for some of Italy’s greatest frescoes, or simply relax at one of the cafés or restaurants on the main square.

World Famous Tuscan Wine
Between these two cities is the delightful landscape of the Chianti region, where you can follow the wine road, sample the world famous Chianti Classico and visit some of the prettiest villages in Tuscany.

Mediaeval Italian Villages
South of Sienna is the Renaissance hill town of Montepulciano, whose charming narrow streets, attractive churches, fortified castle and excellent wine merit a day trip, whilst the breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside will impress any visitor.

Other places of interest include the pretty mediaeval town and UNESCO World Heritage Site of San Gimignano, with its impressive towers, the Torre del Lago, where the Puccini opera festival is held each summer, and the wonderful mediaeval towns of Lucca and Cortona.

Beautiful Tuscan Coastline
Tuscany has some of the loveliest beaches you will find in Europe. The northern coastline of the region boasts the chic resort of Forte Dei Marmi, stylish Viareggio and the smaller seaside towns of Lido Di Camaiore and Marina Di Petrasanta. Their white sands and elegant shores never fail to attract visitors in the summer. Further south, between Livorno to Piombino, visitors will delight in exploring the Etruscan ruins along this rocky stretch of coast, dotted with sandy beaches around Marina di Cecina and Castiglioncello. Towards Grosseto in the south, there are further stretches of sandy shores perfect for families.
We offer direct flights from a wide selection of local UK airports to Pisa, where you can hire a car and enjoy a gentle onward journey through the Tuscan hills to your chosen holiday property. Booking flights through VFB will give you free ATOL protection.  Alternatively, Easyjet offer flights from Bristol, Gatwick and Luton airports and Ryanair flies from Liverpool, Birmingham, Bournemouth, East Midlands, London Stansted, Edinburgh and Glasgow.  There are also flights to Pisa from Manchester, Leeds Bradford, and Newcastle with Jet2.
